Purposes of Practicum
Teacher
should be able to educate the students, not only teach them about the material
(cognitive) but also able to educate students to have a good attitude
(affective-psychomotor). Thus, it is necessary for the teachers (educators) to
have quality standards of competence and professionalism which are assured. Therefore,
it is necessary to become a professional teachers who can improve the progress
of national education required a process of continuous development, targeted
and effective. The process leading to this professional teacher needs to be
supported by all the elements associated with the teacher. Then the
professionalization of teachers (educators) is a must to improve the quality of
education, especially if we look at the current objective conditions that are always
growing in educational view. Thus, educators also should be able to improve
their 4 competencies which also bring the important impact to develop the
teaching and learning process. Those four competencies are:
a. Pedagogical
Competence
Pedagogical Competence deals with how the
educator’s competence in managing the classroom as well as being able to plan
the teaching process, able to teach and able to know the students’ characteristics
and able to evaluate the learning process that will impact to the quality of
teaching.
b. Professional
Competence
This competence deals with the teacher’s
ability to perform professional duties by mastering the material also method
that will be used in teaching and learning process
c. Personal
Competence
Personal competence is the ability to be able
as a role model for the students that should be mature, stable, and wise also
always doing self-improvement to get better.
d. Social
Competence
Social Competence is the teachers’ ability to
interact with the social environment whether it is between teacher-students,
teacher-teacher, and teacher-social.
Teacher
is the important role in the teaching and learning process, because the
teacher’s quality is also an important issue in education. Various continuing
efforts has been implemented by the government, for example by doing
professional development, seminars, discussions that essentially aimed to
improve teacher’s quality. Teacher is the responsible elements in the
organization of physical education and often carry out less comprehensive
learning so that the implementation is not in accordance with what is expected.
Therefore, making a lesson plan is a part of teacher's job, where teacher
should be able to assess students' needs as learning subjects, formulate
learning objectives and choose appropriate learning methods and strategies to
achieve established goals. Therefore, one strategy that used to improve the
professionalism and the quality as a teacher especially for the prospective
teacher is by joining teaching practice (PPL) especially SEA-Teacher program
(SEAMEO) that emphasizing in teaching practice.
