In supporting the
learning activities for students, USHS has provided several facilities as well
as for the students’ soft skills and hard skills. In University Science High
School, there are also two main
buildings. Some classes are in the first building, but two classes of grade 7
are in the second building. The facilitations which provided in USHS are
science laboratory, computer laboratory, library, canteen, faculty room,
register room, AVR room, etc. There is Tambayan, it is a place in
front of the main building which is used to learn outside the classroom. That
place can be used by students as long as it is not used by anyone else. And
also, there is Umali Gymnasium in front of the school area. It
is use for physical education or for a place of an event, for example Buwan ng
wikang.
USHS also has many academic support system as well as
supporting the students’ hard skills and soft skills which can be developed by
the extracurricular. The extracurricular which active and involving the
students can be seen as below:

or Samahan ng mga Mag- aaral sa Filipino, Musika, Ekonomika, Kultura at
kasayangan that leads by Mr. Mark Christian V. De Jesus and it has 12 members

or Math Enthusiasts’ Circle that leads by Ms. Joanne S. Dizon. This club has
the members division which are Elite members and Regular members. The elite
members which include of grade 9 and 10 with total of the members are 38.
Meanwhile, the regular members are involving the grade 8 until the grade 10 and
the total members are 58 students.

Moreover,
this school also has SBO or Students Body Organization that leads by Asst. Prof
Allan F. Antalan which has 11 members. This organization is more like the
students’ council of the school or Senat.
University Science High School also establishing an organization called
PTA (Parent-Teachers Organization) in order to build the relationship between
the students' parents and the teachers. Therefore, the parents also involve in
developing school qualities whether by mental and physical support also the
parents able to know what activities and what facilities that provided by
school.

Teaching System
Full day school system has
already implemented in University Science High School which start from 7.30 a.m
to 5.00 p.m every Monday to Friday which is as the workdays of the school. The
total number of school days for the S.Y. 2018 – 2019 is 201. The allowed number
of absences given by DepEd is 20% of it.
Every teacher has their own responsibility for
their subject as well as their teaching time in the classroom which is 1 hour
or 60 minutes per subject. Moreover, the break time for both the teachers and
students starts from 12.00 p.m to 13.00 p.m and then continue to the regular
teaching and learning process until the last subject which is at 5.00 p.m.
The adoption of a student-centered approach is
strongly emphasized. Teacher no longer explain all the learning materials, but
students are expected to form their own knowledge or find that knowledge. The
method applied in the school is Active Learning. Active Learning method is
intended to optimize and maximize the use of all the potential possessed by
students, which ultimately students can achieve satisfactory learning outcomes
according to their personal characteristics. Active Learning method is also
intended to keep the attention of students during the learning process to stay
awake and focused on the lesson.
Furthermore, teacher use a variety of teaching
techniques to create an exciting and enjoyable learning environment for
students. Some components of learning, such as opening and closing, explaining,
basic and advanced questions, and reinforcement, as well as follow-up activity
are also included in the implementation of lessons at training schools in this
school. In terms of assessment, the teacher gives post-test after the taught
material is finished. To provoke student participation, the author uses
reinforcement in the form of positive reinforcement. In this case, students
will be awarded a bonus of value if students can answer and participate
actively in the class.
