DO NOT UNDERSTIMATE YOUR TEACHERS -Teaching Practice

Sometimes students will act like they were know everything, being taught by their teachers just a formality in school, all they have to do just listening and stay in the classroom. But they do not know how their teachers struggle with themselves before faced them in the classroom. As the prospective teacher I feel that, be a teacher is not as simple as it seems. Why? Because teacher needs to prepare materials, mental and physical readiness before teach the students. Since I join this program I learned a lot, especially how to be a good teacher.
At first, i thought that teaching in front of students in the classroom would be not that hard, would be not that challenging. But the expectation will be different with reality. Let’s say first of all that knowing your students characteristics. When I observed my cooperating teacher who is Sir. Joseph at the first week, I found that “okay I can handle this class like the way he is”. But then when I arranged my lesson plan and consulted with my cooperating teacher, I was not ready yet. I had a lot of revision, which is detailed revision. I learned a lot from Sir. Joseph he taught me well and he lead me to the right path to be able to write the appropriate lesson plan. “Okay I should be able to make this better without revision” I thought. As the time goes by, with a lot of revision and suggestion, I able to identify and know who to manage the classroom even only from lesson plan. I can imagine how the class situation with particular techniques and media would be. During my first week observation in Sir. Joseph class I found that he managed the class well, he used strategies that applied as well as the students’ needs. He also applied the innovative methods and strategies in the teaching and learning process in order to build a new atmosphere and gain students interest

“Its my time” I said. This time at August 22nd I had my initial visit for teaching practice. Since I had suggestion from Sir. Joseph I believe in myself that I can handle these classes which were 8 inventors and 8 researchers. The teaching demonstration was running well and the evaluator said so. But who knows what the struggle I felt few days before I taught in that classes J. I learned the new material that would be taught in that time, I learned and practice how to implement the new techniques in teaching, I learned how to control myself first before I able to control my classes. It was chaos in my mind. I should be ready, I should be confident, and I should be able as the role of my students. Since that I know it will not that easy to be a teacher, it will be not that simple to be a teacher. Teacher needs to one step ahead from the students, teacher needs to be able as the role for the students, and it is a big responsibility as a teacher.

I am so grateful that I became a part of SEA-Teacher program and Sir. Joseph became my cooperating teacher. Because I can learned a lot that teacher’s preparation before teach in the classroom is really needed and it is not simple. That’s why a lot of people said that “your teachers are your second parents”. Because teachers want their students become to be a worthwhile human. No matter how your teachers is they are will be always the one who struggle for the preparation to meet their students.
Since from the second week I would handle two classes in grade 8, then I was given a chance to teach about Egyptian Literature as my topic to be discussed. As a prospective teacher which is still learning how to be a good teacher, I consulted my lesson plan to Sir. Joseph whether it is acceptable to be implemented. Corrections? Of course, I got advices, comments, and suggestions also revision from him. Conducting three meeting for Egyptian Literature topic was so challenging. I should arranged the materials as well as the ESL students’ need. Besides about the materials, my cooperating teacher also advised me and suggested how to manage the classroom well, as well as from the opening how to make the students mentally and physically readiness, in the main activity how to make sure that the students understand and closing the class that would be able to evaluate the students understanding for the material that have been taught. For the first meeting the material that discussed was introduction of Egyptian Literature, the material for the second meeting was characteristics of Egyptian arts and the material for the last meeting was elements of poetry.

Behold how the River Nile generously flows
And hugs the banks with his gentile waves

It flows as the blood inside a body

It flows as the breaths inside the a lungs
It flows to meet farms and gardens
It flows and waters thirsty throats
It flows and waters flowers and trees

It flows and offers fish for food
It flows and floods the dry soil
It flows through a valley of its creation
It flows beside great pyramids and temples
It flows to crown a heavenly land
